Communities around the globe are more and more aware of the threats and hazards climate change represents. Nevertheless, it seems that many still struggle to understand, especially in the Middle East, that Climate Change is not only one of many threats to our communities such as poverty, displacement, conflicts, resource scarcity, corruption etc., but in fact, today, it is the single most, dangerous threat to the world. The Center for Climate Change and Security has rightfully defined Climate Change as a ‘Threat Multiplier’, having the potential to make every socio-economic and political calamity far worse.

The KRG Austria Representation invited policy adviser and good friend Peri-Khan Aqrawi Whitcomb for an interview. The discussion focused on the role of women in the Kurdistan Region now and in the past. We also focussed on the role that women have in the diaspora, especially in the transmission of culture to younger generations. We concluded by talking about the signficance of International Women’s Day, as Peri-Khan gave three pieces of advice to young Kurdistani women about empowerment and careers.
